Lloyd's of London
Lloyd’s is the world’s specialist insurance and reinsurance market, bringing together an outstanding concentration of underwriting expertise and talent. It is often the first to insure emerging, unusual and complex risks.
Founded in London in 1688, it initially developed as a market for marine insurance but over 300 years later the market insures everything from manufacturing to professional risks, from growing crops to works of art, from satellites in space to the stars of stage and screen.
Around 90 syndicates underwrite insurance at Lloyd’s, covering all classes of business. Together they interact with thousands of brokers daily to create insurance solutions for businesses in over 200 countries and territories around the world. Lloyd’s insures the majority of FTSE 100 and Dow Jones industrial average companies.
Lloyd’s has a unique capital structure which means it offers tremendous financial security supported by excellent ratings. Assets and Reserves for the Market as a whole exceed NZ$50billion.
Lloyd’s continues to be a vital part of New Zealand’s own insurance and reinsurance landscape – it is a major reinsurer to EQC, NZI and others and has paid out over NZ$5billion in claims arising from the Christchurch earthquakes.
Stamford Insurance is a Lloyd’s Coverholder – in effect we take the local underwriting decisions on behalf of our syndicates in London. This is a position of great trust and responsibility – there are only 4,000 Coverholders worldwide. It gives us the opportunity to create individual solutions tailored to our clients’ specific requirements.
Stamford Insurance is a member of Insurance Advisernet, a national network of independent insurance brokers. The collective buying power of the Network improves our ability to negotiate excellent rates and exclusive insurance solutions with many of New Zealand’s largest insurance companies for the benefit of our clients.
Our membership of Insurance Advisernet provides you with significant advantages, including:
